June was a fun month for me for perfume. Even though June – being winter in Australia – is one of our cooler months, we did have a week in Bali for a friend’s birthday. So, I got to throw a few “fun, tropical island holiday” fragrances into the mix.

Rio Radiance by Sol De Janeiro – this is the only SDJ fragrance I own and a really great body mist for a beachy vibe. It is a blend of white florals and tuberose, with a lovely blend of ylang ylang, coconut and just a hint of vanilla. Unlike the the other SDJ scents I have tried, this one is not too sweet, and it is reminiscent of suntan lotions but less coconutty and more tropical floral. Personally I think its a very easy wear for the summer and the body mist format means it wont be too overbearing in the heat. Perfumer is Vincent Kukzinski (Worn at least 6 times).
Montabaco Flor by Ormonde Jayne* – You may remember this from May’s post and I was still having a bit of a love affair with it in June. I seem to particularly enjoy the Montabaco profile in the cooler months because it has a really great balance of fresh citrus and aromatic notes with deeper notes of leather and tobacco that help to withstand the colder temperatures. Elae by Trudon – June was the month I discovered Elae for myself, and it was the beginning of a very solid love affair. The scent profile is largely quite linear and it feels uncomplicated and open with room to breathe. Translucent white florals tinged with brisk greens, coupled with a hint of soapy neroli blend and light hued woody notes. It remains fresh throughout the wear, although becomes more musky than green in the dry down. I can shower myself in this stuff, I cannot get enough. Perfumer: Yann Vasnier (Worn 5 times)
Love Delight by Amouage – A very pretty gourmand floral with a zingy ginger opening that is also a bit juicy – possibly from the mandarin note and sweetened with vanilla. Of the florals, I feel the heliotrope is the most dominant for me and imparts an almondy, powdery aspect. The dry-down for me is pretty but less exciting or unique, dominated by a noticeable woodsy aromachemical element that gives an airy feel to the fragrance. Perfumer: Pascal Gaurin (Worn 4 times)
Rose de Jamal by Les Indemodables – a dark rose with a hint of green spice and soapiness. The sweetness is really natural, the rose is not the really jammy rose that you get in a lot of “commercial” fragrances and it has an earthiness about it. There is a bit of darkness to this fragrance – something woody and/or resinous. The aromatic elements have a minty edge which keeps the fragrance fresh and beautifully balanced. Perfumer: Antoine Lie (Worn 4 times)
Worn Multiple Times
Andalusian Soul (Merchant of Venice) – I picked this up blindly for a steal years ago and almost decluttered it several times due to my (then) fairly vocal distaste of vanilla forward perfumes. This is pleasant enough, with lovely ambery, syrupy boozy and aromatic nuances. I like it enough to keep it, but I’m not sure I would rush to buy it again. (Worn 3 times)
Babycat (YSL) – spice and incense-infused, leathery vanilla. Simplistic explanation that can never truly relay the addictive nuances. It’s been hyped to death so, you already know. (Worn 3 times)
Cruz del Sur II (Xerjoff) – I mean, of course I wore it in Bali. This is so tropical with quite a chilled out, holiday vibe. Creamy milk, sweetened with luxurious guava and mango with fresh green nuances. Delicious. Had to force myself not to use up my entire 10ml decant in one week. (Worn 3 times)
Portrayal Woman (Amouage) – This has been languishing on my shelf recently so it was time to show it some love. What a perfect time of year to wear this dense tobacco floral. (Worn 3 times)
More Than Words (Xerjoff) – This surprised me, I wasn’t in love with the opening but the dry down, oh the dry down is a heavenly velvety rose that won me over. (Worn 2 times)
Gardenia Antigua (Armani Privé) – This is such a lovely fresh, green take on gardenia. I cannot wait to explore it more in the warmer months. (Worn 2 times)
Mohur Extrait (Neela Vermiere) – I a going to have so much more to say about this in the coming months. Spicy and exotic with lush florals. So thrilled to have it. (Worn 2 times)
Bruma (Trudon) – this put Trudon perfumes on my radar back in 2019, and is my first love from the House. (Worn 2 times)
Oud Bouquet (Lancome) – I’m really on the fence with this one at the moment. There is something I still love about it and it holds memories…but it is not a love for me anymore. (Worn 2 times)
Frangipani (Ormonde Jayne) – a sparkling, green frangipani that has an air of elegance. Summer staple. I actually wore it more but was too lazy on holiday to record it. (Worn 2 times)
Tuberoza (Nishane) – a lovely, bright translucent tuberose. Garnered me a compliment! (Worn 2 times)
