Every Single Perfume I Wore in July

July is one of the coldest months for Brisbane, and I expected to be wearing some of my heaviest, most wintery, cozy perfumes. I did get to wear some, but to be honest I was still very much craving lighter scent profiles. The weather wasn’t really playing nicely either and my predictions of a “warm winter” seemed to be accurate. However, overall it was a really pleasing perfumed month, even though I don’t feel like I got to sample too many new things.

Worn Most

Elae (Trudon) – I introduced this one last month but suffice to say this is a lovely floral woody perfume that is airy and slightly musky, with a hint of green nuances and perhaps some bright citrus in the opening. This has clearly been an obsession for me recently, I wore it a whopping 11 times during the month. Perfumer: Yann Vasnier

Gris Charnel (BDK Parfums) – This has been so viral for the past couple of years. I was on the brink of buying it when I stumbled across it in 2020, but then it hit the socials and I was put off by the noise that was being generated. In the meantime I have been given A LOT of samples of it, so then there wasn’t really any need to buy it. It’s still pretty popular, but I think that the craziness has died down enough that I didn’t get sheep vibes when buying it. Is that superficial and silly? Yes, don’t judge me. I’m not surprised that I love it though, as the perfumer is Mathilde Bijaoui – the artist behind another very beloved scent that I have now completely depleted and which is now discontinued, 811 Absoluto.

Levant (Ormonde Jayne) – A fun, happy musky floral perfume. The main florals are peony & orange blossom float on a cloud of fluffy musk that is incredibly light and airy and never sharp or synthetic. It is very romantic, very feminine and is suited to any time of year although I suspect I will be wearing it even more in the coming seasons of spring and summer. (Worn 4 times)

Montabaco Cuba (Ormonde Jayne) – That smooth, translucent tobacco-suede base of the original, coupled with the juiciest citruses of bergamot, orange and mandarin, white florals and tea. I would say this is the perfect accompaniment to warm weather scenarios, but also it is such a burst of freshness in the cooler months because it is carried by the base of the OG. (Worn 4 times)

Ormonde Woman (Ormonde Jayne) – Grassy green tones are made moody by mosses, woods and spices. An overdose of coriander with violet and jasmine. Slightly powdery, ambery but still fresh. It is a blend of contradictions that assimilate into a harmonious chord. It is my signature for a reason. Perfumer: Geza Schoen (Worn 4 times)

Gozo (Jeroboam) – So fun, yet in a grown up way. The sweet, almost plasticky opening of candied tuberose and bergamot is tempered by earthy patchouli, cedar and musk. Geranium and violet leaf at an aromatic green edge to the woody, earthy base. The ultimate blend is beautifully balanced with the tuberose carrying through, but in a way that sees the note maturing elegantly throughout the wear from a playful youth through to a seductive, confidant woman. Perfumer: Vanina Muracciole (Worn 4 times)

Teisenddu (Frassaï) – This reads like a gourmand tea. I suppose it is, in a way – it is inspired by Torta Negra, like a spiced fruit cake but the POV is a Welsh tearoom. It is cozy and warm and ambery, but with a hint of aromatic freshness, hints of leather and delicious booziness. Delicious and welcoming. (Worn 4 times). Perfumer: Roxanne Kirkpatrick

Worn Multiple Times

Belle de Jour (Dior) – demure fruity floral with a prominent pear note. (worn 3 times)

Overture Woman (Amouage) – boozy, woody and leathery. Is it a lot? Yes. Is it also spectacular? Yes. (worn 3 times)

Irida EdP (Angelos Creations Olfactives) – Warm, buttery iris that melts on your skin, balanced with green and woody tones. (worn 3 times)

Phi Une Rose de Kandihar (Tauer) – An incredible concoction of fluffy tobacco, dry florals and leather laced with cinnamon. (worn 3 times)

Myrrhe Carmin (Givenchy) – A stunning dark rose that is drenched in viscous balsams and resins. Ginger adds spice and I get sticky stewed fruits. Perfect for a formal evening, or when you just want to feel fancy. (worn 2 times)

Gardenia Antigua (Armani) – Dont let the name fool you, this is no earthy, heavy gardenia.  This is a light, fresh floral, opening with soft citruses, the gardenia is blended with ylang ylang and jasmine which rounds it out nicely.  (worn 2 times)

Santal Complet (Fragrance du Bois) – A vanillic sandalwood laced with dried coconut powder. Someone once said they got coffee from this, now I cant un-smell that but I love it still. (worn 2 times)

de Profundis (Serge Lutens) – This is a moody daydream. Green and aromatic, but also earthy and slightly smoky. It has a cool aspect which resembles cool, damp earth. The note of Chrysanthemum adds a clean floral edge. Officially one of my favourites of the House. (worn 2 times)

Libre Intense (YSL) – Lavender and Orange blossome. Sweet, yet aromatic and very, very loud. Still, there is something I enjoy about this one, enough to buy a small bottle of it. (Worn 2 times)

Delta of Venus (Eris Parfums) – Green guava, just a slight hint of woodiness but coulped with bright citrus. It is the most grown-up fruity floral I have ever known and it immediately went to the top of my BUY list. (worn 2 times)

Juice (Commodity) – Interesting that many complained this was not fruity. I get a lot of fruit, but it is also woody with a base of dark patchouli. Weirdly, it reminds me of Hibiscus Mahajad but… different. More toned down if you are looking for an alternative to that shouty, beautiful beast. I like this (worn 2 times + testing wears)
